Has anyone who has a slow switching O2 sensor after adding headers ever try wrapping the O2's with a plug sock, or heat insulator, to keep sensor hotter and therefore switch better? Just a thought, I have not tried the rear sensors in the front position yet, but thought of this as a substitute or addition to that.
"The sensor element is a ceramic cylinder plated inside and out with porous platinum electrodes; the whole assembly is protected by a metal gauze. It operates by measuring the difference in oxygen between the exhaust gas and the external air, and generates a voltage or changes its resistance depending on the difference between the two."
I wouldnt wrap it. Either get new sensors or increase the heat of the headers up to the sensor by wrapping or ceramic coating the headers to keep the exhaust gas hotter. Or move the O2 bung closer to the exhaust ports, but thats usually not an option.
or tuck it behind a heat sheild, tie wrap it to something to get it away from the headers. I tried everything and nothing worked until I got it further away from the headers. The heat from the headers and melting wires will cause slow switching.
One of the things that really helped me was to take off the front wheels. That provides easy access to the o2 sensor routing of the wires. I had tried several times from underneath the car without the wheels off, and had a hard time seeing. Removing the front wheels made more room for my head and let more light in.
