well, it looks like i jinxed it after all. i hope not. i got the car up to very high speed yesterday while racing, as most of you know. well, i failed to mention until further into the thread that when i was leveling out, the motor was making a little bit of gurgling/pinging. i could barely hear it, but at those speeds, no wonder. well, i finally drove my car the first time since. there is a sharp kackle in the exhuast on deceleration. but, i do not have any mufflers on the car. therefore, there has always been a little bit of this when car was cold. well, i got the car warm and it didnt go away. very distinct kackle that wont go away now. DAM. the car feels ok, though. any thoughts?
Re: uh oh...maybe damage after high speed run (rwj383)
Robert,
While you have the plugs out, give it a compression check... That's the best way to identify any piston/valve/ring damage after a heavy NOX run... Believe me, I have a lot experience in this area...
Shirl :D
Re: uh oh...maybe damage after high speed run (rwj383)
Like the above post check your plugs, do a compression test and also drain your oil and look for fine shavings (bearings,etc)..Good luck I hope your engine is ok..
Re: uh oh...maybe damage after high speed run (ZO6LS6)
Define "Kackle"....
You think you sucked a chicken into the intake at those speeds??.
it is a hard POP on decel, sometimes several one after the other. only sometimes, yet doesnt go away when car is warm. i just got back from an even further drive this evening. yup, i need to investigate. i hope it is only a chicken or small dog
Re: uh oh...maybe damage after high speed run (rwj383)
Pull plugs & check compression and do a leak down test. If you find there is a compression issue, first check pushrods then start possibly looking for a bent valve stem... Just a process of elimination... Sorry about your misfortune man!
Re: uh oh...maybe damage after high speed run (Smoke-N-Shot)
If the engine is still strong, and this is the sound/only one it's making......I agree, comp test, and look at the valve train.............
Fuel is evidently combusting in the exhaust area........raw....plug/s, could be damaged.
Re: uh oh...maybe damage after high speed run (rwj383)
:cry Uh, RWJ, didn´t want to heas that!!
1) What are your plugs gapped at??
Mine are gapped .34 on 200 shot runs!!!!!!!!
2) Also what octane did you use??
I don´t use less than 99 Octane.
I read .94 to 1.00 O2`s on my NOS runs...damn rich, but therefore
NO pinging!! Maybe you were too lean :(
Mabe you run out of fuel pressure?? That´s why I have an Autometer
fuel pressure gauge and have 60-61PSI during the runs.
On NOS you cannot be careful enough!!!
1st Check your plugs!!!!
2nd Check compression, your head gaskets may be gone
3rd Maybe the piston rings are not in perfect shape now :(
4th I hope you didn´t damage your drivetrain.
5th Do you have cats???? You may have burnt them!!!
I´m no mechanic, but however, post all news and I´ll try to help you out as good as I can!!!
Hi Speed junkies hold together, my friend........we will find out what doesn´t work well !!!!!
BTW, I´ll see what my internal engine looks like after the big NOS runs
next month, wehn I do the heads/cam swap.
