stock air box......
If your try to save a few $$ just make your own intake. But.. you would need to get some K&N filters for this.
If you're looking of a NO cost way to get more air into you filter, you can do a little surgery on the factory air box lid to increase the air flow at least 50%. :yesnod: This is how you do it!!!
First remove the lid. You will see that there is an inner wall with a raised portion in the center on the lid. You can cut a 1.5 x 2.5 inch opening in that inner wall, at the very top of that raised portion. Now, turn over the lid and cut a similally sized hole on the outer part of the lid, starting at the ridge that runs from left to right across the outer part of the lid.
The result will be about 3.75 square inches on added air intake area for your filter. You will notice that the holes you have made DO NOT line up, which is fine and will assist in keeping water away from your filter.
Now if you replace your factory filter with a K&N, which you can get at Pep Boys, You'll have a much better breathing LS-1. Good Luck :D :D
Just for grins.........I will dno it against my baseline soon.
But, initial impressions after around a 100 mile relearn, is a major SOTP diff.........the car will not take full throttle in first, or 2nd, and wants to slide a bit in the rear on the shift to 3rd......and this is only leaving the line at around 2k, and feathering the clutch.....then feeding WOT...seems like a different car.........well worth the minor costs & effort.
Got mine through WCC. :)
