Default Another fuel guage thread

My 97 is getting worse about driving along just fine and the gauge drops to empty and check guages light comes on. What is the correlation with the check guages light? I would think that the low fuel light would come on and the car would just think I was low on gas. Anyways I only get 93 octane at Chevron and used there techron treatment but im still having this problem. Any other tips? How do I check the connection on the tank?

Default Same problem

Any time I drive for more than a couple of hours, my fuel gauge does the same thing. It drops to zero and the lights come on. If I turn the car off and back on, everything comes back, sort of like rebooting a computer. Last night it did it and after several "reboots", turning the engine off was ineffective. I'm assuming since turning the power off and on affects it, the problem lies in a computer somewhere. I'm hoping the answer is out there somewhere...... it seems to be a relatively common problem

Had the same problem last summer in my low mileage 99 vert. Techron did not solve, and the dealer fix to replace one of the pumps was just over $1,200.00.

It seems that the problem is more often a sulpher fouled fuel gauge sending unit but there can be other reasons.
Mine turned out to be a clogged siphon/jet pump in the right side tank.

I'm not saying your car has the same problem. It is just another possibility.

Good luck and be sure to let us know the final resolution.

OK my guauge goes dead after 30-50 minutes of driving. Ive been using gas with techron and have put in the additive also. Where is the connection that I need to check? It doest make sense to me that it only does it after driving for a certain amount of time.

Anything new on this one from anyone. I get the same thing about about 30-40 minutes of driving. Turning key off/on has done the reset so far. I have also tried the techron many times.
