I need (2) new tires for the rear of my 99.Any suggestions as to which tires will be the best for my toy.I am not changing the front tires as they look like new.Idon't mind paying the price for the tires,I only want some tha won't make so much racket.Do you think it would hurt to have the stock tires on the front until they wear down?I hate to remove the front tires and dump them when they are like new. :chevy :chevy :flag :chevy :chevy
I would say your best bet would be to keep all 4 tires the same to maintain handling characteristics. If you don't want to change all 4 then just buy 2 of the same ones for the rear. I switched to Pilot Sports all around and LOVE the change. It is so much quieter when cruising at high speeds, the grip is GREAT, and it smoothes things out. Good luck.

Ditto that...here's another vote for the Pilot Sports...great tires!
I had the same situation (good fronts, worn rears) I put Yoko Runflats on the rear while while keeping the Goddyear EMT's on the front. I took the car to an Autocross and it handled superbly. Actually better than with the EMT's on the back, of course, being new tires on the back you'd expect better handling. Bottom line, I saw no problems with doing this, and have since put these (Yoko's) tires on the front after 15K miles with dissimilar tires ( and no problems). These tires are awesome for Runflats!
You are probably correct, you have tried different tires front/rear I have not.
I'm not so worried about different tires when running under controlled circumstances such as on a racetrack. My worry comes in when running with very small margins such as on wet/rainy/snowy road, you can get into big trouble VERY quickly if your front/rear tires behave in a inconcistent manner. But of course if you are not using your car during such conditions it's not a problem.

Certainly it's desirable to have the same tires all around. I, like anybody would prefer this and now I do. But, I did the Goodyear front, Yoko back, and really couldn't tell if there were any issues, and I drove in all types of weather. The car handled fine. It's just my opinon based on that experience, that you should be fine. I would do it again myself, but it's up to each persons preference.
I just put the Yokohama Non runflats on the rear, with the stock tires on the front. It handles fine, no problems. When the front ones go bad, ill change them, i just cant see throwing away 6-700 bucks for tires when they arent needed. Just change the rears and forget about it. I really like the AVS sport that i got, they are so much quieter, and grab better than the stock runcraps
