Default Can a Computer Upgrade Can be Uninstalled

I hope there's a Chevy C5 Tech in the house. My C5 had a slightly uneven idle in park so my dealer reprogrammed/upgraded my car's computer. Apparently, there's a tech bulletin about it. The problem is, the upgrade seemingly detuned my car and now it's not as responsive especially at lower RPM's. In my opinion, the dealer used a generic fix for a specific problem. Also, my Hypertech III won't work now. (Before going to the dealer, all settings were put back to stock). Can my dealer uninstall the upgrade? Thanks in advance, Rick

If you removed the program and returned it to stock, you should reinstall your Hypertech progroam. That should take care of the problem. If I am reading your thread correctly. :chevy :chevy :flag :chevy :chevy

Page C-5 TECH on this one. He should be able to answer your question. As long as you returned everything to stock, as you mentioned, the Hypertech should be able to be re-downloaded to a stock PCM. It almost sounds as thouigh the wrong program was downloaded to your car by your dealer.

The previous, stock version of your program should be available to your dealer on the GM computer system. The program they most recently loaded cen not be reversed, they will simply replace the program with a fresh copy of the old version.

There is no service bulletin for an updated PCM program for a 2000 to address your specific complaint :bs ,but that doesnt mean there is not a different program available...If you E-mail me your VIN#,I can verify this.

Any new program is based on the one retreived from your vehicle,so it is impossible to download an incorrect program...Yes,an old program can be reinstalled...For example, there is a reprogram for the belt noise on the 97-2000 that raises the vehicles idle to correct the noise.Unfortunatly, the program raises the idle to high so that it is like you have the cruise control on,so I uninstalled it.GM relized this and came out with a different fix (alternator and tensioner) .Hopefully this is not the program they put in your vehicle...

Thank you all for your information. The Corvetteforum is the best! I'll email my VIN# to you now, C-5 Tech, thanks. Rick

Rick,
The easiest way to force a full upload of the current GM PCM program is to answer "NO" to the question is this VIN# correct on the TECH2. This forces a full reload of the current GM programs. It assumes the PCM is a replacement and the VIN# must be rewritten.

This is used for replacing PCM's as well as getting rid of a computer program that doesn't work correctly.

Dealers cannot go back to earlier versions of PCM programs. They only have the latest and "greatest".

Your Hypertech unit should still work. If it doesn't, they will update it for you.
