Earlier, there was a suggestion to shorten the shock jounce bumpers to give a little more suspension travel after lowering the C5. Has anyone done this, did it work?
Others have. I'll be doing mine in 2 weeks. Z51 Suspension. Will be reversing the rear mounting brackets & cutting the front bushings also. Longer rear bolts too.
No. I don't think you can change those? Guess I'll have .5" less travel up front... I'm thinking you see more shock travel at the rear of the car, but I could be wrong..? Reverse, but with the mount/jounce mods I should have more travel after I lower and address those issues than I do have in my current setup with less lowering. So I should be ok.
I cut my Bilstein stops and It did make a difference :yesnod:
I also experimented with my Z51 shocks. My car is slammed, so I felt the Z51 shocks were a little to sloppy. You can cut the stops with a razor blade.
Nasty:
How much were you lowered with the Z51's and cut Z51 stops? Did you cut .5"? Did you cut the Z51 stops with the shocks still installed or didya remove them 1st?
MelloYellow I cut the smaller part of the stops. If you look at the stops they are 2 teared. I cut the smaller part off when I had the shocks off the car.
My car has no  front bolts and longer (RKSport) rear bolts.
Call me dumb, can anyone show a picture of these jounce bumpers, or explain where to find them. Also, do you just undo the shock at the top and turn that bracket upside down and reinstall the shock? Thanks.
Here is a pic before I cut them, I'm using the b type bumper cut in half.
The gaps shown are where the shocks were on the car with a distance of
26 1/4" to the fender well. Now I'm at 26" with the bumpers cut 1/2".
Interesting pic. Most people say that the Bilsteins are the same length as the Z51 shock. The pic seems to show that the Bilstein is shorter. Anyway, I just received a set of the Koni adjustables. These seem to have a very soft foam rubber bump stop.
My biggest concern with lowering and cutting or using a soft bump stop is internal shock bottoming. At $220/ea, I really don't want to kill my shox by lowering too much. I'm really more interesting in optimizing handling than just slamming the car for looks. However, if I can have both, why not?!
