Default into Reverse at +50mph?

Guys,

It seems that I have defeated my reverse lockout. Question is though, is this part of my shifter assembly or is it inside the transmission? I have stock shifter on my 00 coupe. This problem is starting to become a little annoying as I have to second guess myself when hitting 5th. Any help would be appreciated?

Its inside the tranny and def. unsafe when racing. Did it grind?

Default more info

Well I didn't get to drop it into actual Reverse gear. It started grinding and giving me feedback a bit and I realized quick it was reverse and eased off the position. Well that is .....nice.... now my tranny is fleeced. Any idea on cost of repair? Would it just be better to try and find an MN12?

There's been several threads on it. The lockout solenoid is a NOT permanent lockout. You can force your way past it, and it does not always hold. Replacing it is a biatch. Special tool required or drop the trans.
Stupidest design ever.

My lock out works fine. You must have to slam into reverse gear to get by the lock out.

The lock-out is on top of the tranny making it difficult to access when in the car.

It's in the center of picture

Does anyone know why GM went with this setup? I always thought 2 lockout solenoids (CAGS, reverse) was pretty excessive. Camaros/TAs do just fine with the "heavy push" method of getting into reverse, and even smarter is the plunger that is on every other 6-speed car out there. Technology for technology's sake?

Default Thanks

I've got a pretty hard shifting hand. I was going from 4th into 5th and accidentally slammed too far to the right. This was during some spirited driving in a closed course of course. Thanks for the picture. Now just to see if it will be easier to replace this reverse lockout solenoid or perhaps weld a reverse lock out mechanism to prevent my shifter to travel that far unless I pull another lever would be nice.

Thanks all for your input. Keep it coming =)

I would too! Like the old Hurst shifters. (did I just date myself?)

I think in one of the other threads someone said they made it so you could push through the lockout in case it ever got stuck in the "on" position. Kind of a "fail safe". I don't really buy that since solenoids don't fail in the "on" position.
