Default Head/Cam Winter Project

2003 Z06 with American Racing Headers 1 3/4", Halltech Venom, and RPM 3.73 built rear. Worked with TEA and this is the combo we put together....

TFS 215 CNC Heads milled to 61cc
Comp Cam Custom Grind 232/236 .595/.579 113 + 3 degree adv.
Valve events @ .050 are:
IVO 6
IVC 46
EVO 54
EVC 2
Overlap 8* (ICL 110)

Will also be adding Fast 90/90, 30# injectors, Morel lifters, Yella Terra 1.7 rockers, TFS Pushrods, Cloyes Hex adjust, 25% Underdrive Pulley, DeWitts radiator, ARP Hardware, Melling 296 Oil Pump, and Electric Water Pump.

What do you think? Looking for constructive comments and opinions!
Have GM MLS Head gaskets for now - was scared of the .45 cometics which would be a little better for DCR.
Hope to be around 450 rwhp
Car is weekend fun car and occasional 1/4 mile

By the calculator I used (and if I did it correctly) it is 8.4 with GM MLS.
With .045 cometics it is 8.58.

Those sound like sane numbers, so I'll assume you did it correctly. And in that case I'd choose .040" Cometics for the build.

If buying ARP hardware, go head studs, not bolts. Very much worth the extra money. Not for future convenience, but for the extra clamping force.

Shoot me a PM when you get to doing this, I might be able to drive up and lend a hand, bring some custom-made tools, or simply provide non-expert supervision.

Brian and Mike @ TEA have set you up right...should have a very strong car next year.

Tom,

Thanks and I will probably wait until closer to spring to get started. Appreciate any help or supervision you can give - especially if I get stuck...I will pay for gas and beer!!
Have ARP head studs so I am good to go there!

Sounds like a setup very much like mine, but one size larger cam. I dynoed @ 477/432 SAE corrected, with the clutch slipping, so I think your estimate is pretty conservative. It's gonna rock!

So what head gasket did you go with? How important is the difference in DCR between GM MLS & Cometics?

Don't know for sure. Lot's of different opinions. Was going to start there and monitor duty cycle unless someone knows for sure!
