Default driver's seat-broken plastic control panel

I need some help...just bought a 2001 Coupe with the only one problem...the plastic control panel located on the door side of the seat (at the bottom) has a broken post in the front and it has allowed the entire panel to pull away from the seat...I can push the panel back into place, but it pops out each time on sit in the seat...it appears that the plastic post (its about three-quarters of an inch wide) in the front of the panel is broken...all of the controls work fine, it just looks really bad sticking out about an inch away from the seat...can this be fixed??? Thanks for any suggestions...

Even with a non broken post, getting the post to stay in is a problem. It uses a metal spring thing around the post that is supposed to keep the post in the hole in the frame.........but rarely does
