I was driving along and i wanted to see how my car sounded with the new "quieter" B&B route 66 cat back.(i had the straight pipe cat back) Anyway...I stomped it through 2nd....3rd....into fourth..about 100ish. Pretty much spinning and smoking the tires the whole way..All of a sudden, Smoke everywhere!!! coming from my exhaust!! Even when i pulled up to the stop sign. It kept smoking! So, i limped it home and jacked it up and.....NOTHING!! I remember Jason(black99) said that they might smoke some cause he got oil in them somehow..... Could that oil have stayed in there for a few days and not burned out till i Floored it?? I drove it for days normally. (I didn t get the tach above 3500 probably) Was it just the oil burning out??? I hope so...... - Jason
The only time mine smoked like that was when I was running it hard 100+ and had worn rings that caused pressure to push the oil out of the dipstick onto the headers - smoke galore - thought Ihad blown the engine It would only do that when I pushed it HARD - normal driving would not exhibit the issue. Had to get new rings - because only three out of 8 pistons had two compression rings - 5 only had one ring - the top one - so when it started showing wear around 38K - the problems started with pushing the oil out...
Even with a heavily modded 7.0 liter(427) it has a "factory" sound! I ve got 1 7/8 Kooks headers and a "no cat" X-pipe, too! If you want to have a car that s stealthy, this is the way it should sound! I wouldn t believe it wasn t "stock", if i didn t know better......:o

That s kinda what i thought had happened... I just drove it around and it didn t smoke any more...but i didn t stomp it any more. I need to burn it all out and get it all cleaned out.... - Jason
New exhaust burn off doesn't take long, and is nowhere near in the amounts you describe. However, if the person you bought them from said he might have gotten some oil inside of them, dead giveaway. There is your answer. Once you started beating on it, the rear section got hot enough to burn it out.
If it was smoking at the time and you limped it home, there is probably more in there that needs burned out. Take it out and beat it on til it quits if you want.

That s what i thought...I usually drive civil but i need to burn the oil out....
new exhaust doesn't smoke like you describe. I've done 3 or 4 different exhaust systems over the years. There are two culprits that I've run into related to excess smoke....one is the mufflers or tips melting the plastic rear end at the bottom (did that at the track one day)...another is when the CV boot popped off of the axle on the passenger side throwing moly grease onto the hot exhaust pipe and I thought I had a fire under my car (did that at the Nevada Silver State Challenge this year). Get under your car and check it out carefully and don't assume anything.

Yeah, the guy i bought the cat-back from(black99) had got oil in both of them.....alot, aparently....and when i got the exhaust hot- Wow!!! It smoked like the motor was SHOT!! Its real cold here in Mo., and the oil didn t even get hot just driving around town, slow, like i always do. -----I really thought---"That s all it takes to blow a NEW motor up???"
