need some info.thinking of taking car to a dyno. what questions should i ask of the operator. new at this so any help is great

The operator will give you all the instructions you will need. If you are the one in the car just make sure and never hit the brakes.

Let the expert run the car; stand beside the car and enjoy the experience. It's a rush.
Ask them to hook up the air/fuel ratio monitor in the tailpipe, so you will know more about how your engine is performing. Some shops charge an additional small fee for this. Get a dyno printout to take home.

Do a couple of things to make sure the engine will give you the best results - higher readings feel good, you know.
Be sure it's in good tune. Have a clean air filter and fresh oil. Drive it like you stole it before you have it dyno'd, then fill it up with fresh 93 octane gas.
Put about 40 psi in the rear tires - less rolling resistance.
Get the oil good and hot; then if you can, raise the hood and let the intake system cool down for at least a half hour or so before you dyno it; best results come with warm oil and the coolest air intake possible.

The operators usually do 3 runs, and let the car cool between runs, and use a fan on the radiator. The longer time between runs the better. back-to-back runs can vary by 10HP due just to temp variations.

Some guys will say these little tricks are not really representative of the actual engine performance; but they are the same ones that ice the intake at the drag strip - hmmm, you could do that too!

Have fun, but understand that when you dyno it, it sets off the Mod Bug, and will cost you big bucks in the long run.

You should also tell him to set it to SAE correction and set smoothing to 5 so you have a nice standard to go by. But if you are after big numbers let him set it to DIN correction
