I have a Comp 224R, 224/224 .581 lift @ 112 LSA on an A4 with 3.42 gears. It pulls just a bit on the converter so I'm thinking the 228R may be a bit much cam unless you change to a higher stall converter.
I had the TR224, pulled it and added TSP228 and AFR heads. Had nice upper RPM power, but seemed to be a little slugish on the low end. I changed the gears to 3:90s, and that fixed the low end.
Its a nice cam. Its on the upper range of medium size cams.
I ran the my comp cams 228/230 .571/.573 112 on my A4 w/ 2.73s for a couple of weeks before I swapped the rear and converter. It was hard to keep it running at a stop light but if I would have raised the idle a bit it would have been fine.
