I have a 2000 and now that it is cooling down a little, I am starting to use the heat. I have noticed that on auto the a/c button is always lit up. I tried manual and it refuses to go off. It will flash when I try to disengage but always comes back on. On cold days it doesn't seem to really get warm inside like any of my other vehicles.
Is this normal or what do I have to do to turn off the a/c button?
On another note, I wish I had heated seats. How difficult is it to remove the cover to install one of the heaters the vendors sell and then recover the seat?
The AC button will go off automatically when the outside temp gets down to somewhere between 38 and 42. You can turn it off manually but if your memory settings are set for it to be on, every time you restart, it will come back on, therefore you can change things the way you want it, then re-memorize.
My '07 has the heated seats already and I never put them into the '99, so I don't have a clue how hard but I would imagine its easy to do at a local shop however, you'll need to find a power source and switch for them.
If you have the front defroster on, it will force the A-C on, to dehydrate the air before blowing on the glass..You cannot change the programming. However, I have heard of some people putting a switch in the wire to the electric clutch of the A_C unit....just to shut it off in the winter, no matter what...AND some how have done the same for use at the track, to eliminate any possibility of A-C coming on and drawing horse power.
I have a 2004 so YMMV, but if I select "mode" not auto, and cycle it until the front defrost symbol is off, then the ac will not come on (or at least I can turn it off). I find it is easier just to select "auto" and let it control it all.
