Default New EBCM or ABSFixer

Need to make a decision... my EBCM is acting up (1214 Code).

(1) The dealer will replace with NEW EBCM under my GMPP if I pay the $100 Deductible.
(2) I can send my unit to ABS-Fixer for $150 + shipping.

The real question is - has there been any improvements in the EBCM since 2001 that would tilt the scale in favor of an entirely new unit?

How could you go wrong with option #1? You pay $50+ less, for a brand new EBCM, and you don't have to turn a wrench on the car.

What's the downside given the two choices?

Some of the repairs for C1214 require replacement of the BPMV as well as the EBCM. If the resistance between any pump circuit measured to the pump case is less than infinite then both the BPMV and EBCM have to be replaced. The wholesale cost of the BPMV unit is around $900. Use your GMPP. That way you will be covered against all possibilities.

The other reason is you get a 12 month/12K mile warranty on the repair which may last longer than the time remaining on you GMPP.

The only downside is that you end up with an OEM EBCM that could fail again. My 03 had the problem, so nothing was fixed after 01. I would still choose option #1 in this case though.

ABS Fixer is guaranteed for as long as you own your car. The GM one is not.

If the BPMV caused the EBCM to fail and all you repair is the EBCM you will repeat the problem again and again. ABSfixer can only replace a relay he cannot stop the new relay from suffering the same fate as the original relay.

Guess I will try the GMPP first then.

You can't go wrong with option one although the replacement EBCM will have the same inferior relay that failed on the 1st one. The repaired units are repaired with better relays.
