Here in Florida, we can have our windshield changed out if it is too pitted, due to the high sand/pebble content on our roads. The insurance company will pick up the tab (once a year if necessary). In my case, I bought the car with a pitted windshield. No big ones, just a lot of little, tiny ones. I am worried they will screw things up if I have it done. I recently had my 'bird's done and they messed with it three times. STILL it isn't to my liking (seal pouched-up at the corners). :mad
I think the C5 would be even harder......more reason to screw it up. Anyone else have this done to their car and how did it turn out.

Yes, unfortunately, I had to have mine replaced. I took a rock hit, and in no time it spread across the entire windshield. It seems like the glass is a stressed part of the chassis, corner hard and watch the crack spread. It is a long process, three hours for mine. I stood at the edge of the bay, like an expectant father, watching constantly. Turned out fine, no problems, but stressful to watch people go at your car with big knives!

I took a rock hit and had mine replaced. I found a place that had done C5s before and knew what they were doing. They put a team of three people on it. They did a beautiful job. It was a HUD windshield...cost the insurance company $2000.00. They are expensive.
As a side note, I told my dealer I had to have the windshield replaced and was telling him about the horrendous cost. He told me the dealership had a C5 coupe come in off the truck with a broken rear window. It cost the dealership $3800.00 to have it repaced. He said it's the compound curves that drive the price up on that one. Just the glass on a C5 would buy a decent used car.:yesnod:

I know how you feel; I really hated to have mine done. However, a local glass shop did a good job. In fact, they did it twice (ROCKS and TRUCKS!) so I am now on my fourth windshield......
Re: Anyone had their windshield changed.... (ghostmech)
Had my 98 windshield replaced because of a rock chip. Insurance picked it up and I went to their recommended shop that was local to me. They did a great job. They happened to be a very skilled high-end shop. If you have a choice, definatley find a shop that has experience with Vettes. I just lucked out.
Re: Anyone had their windshield changed.... (ghostmech)
I just had my windshield repaired because of a chip yesterday. I was talking to the guy, and he estimated that an OEM replacement would run around 600 installed. I do not have a HUD, so this does contribute to a lower price. Also, call a few windshield places before you go through insurance. From talking to him a bit, he said they do raise the price on the install to make some extra $$. Just figured I'd share what I just learned. :)
