Default Check Engine Light and code

10 PCM - P1416H

Can someone tell me what this code means? The CEL came on yesterday in my '03 coupe while driving to work. I pulled this code out, cleared it and drove last night, and the CEL didn't come back on...

I looked up the code in the manual, but really didn't clarify things. Do I have an EGR valve or something going out?

My car will throw the same code occasionally. Seems to do so when I'm just lugging it around town. It has to do with the secondary injection system. Maybe a sticky SI valve?

C5's do not have EGR. The code is for the right bank AIR valve which resides behind the intake manifold on the drivers side. It's a common issue. Some have had luck spraying WD-40 into the tube to lubricate the valve.

It will come and go. Just clear the code.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try WD-40 first. Would that code make the CEL come on?

You should do both check valves while your at it. The one on the drivers side is easy to get at and remove it completely and look it over and clean it up. Once you see how this valve works and how to clean it up while its in your hands you will have more success with the left bank valve. Use carbuerator cleaner first to clean out any deposits then WD40 for lubrication and reinstall.

The one on the left bank is impossible to get at without removing lots of stuff --- and it's about two feet away --- down the rubber hose that connects to the left bank. Get a small diameter rubber hose to snake through larger hose so you can get the solvents right to the value. Blow the solvent and then the WD40 thru the smaller hose to clean up the valve you can't get to. That should do it.

Good luck
