I want new trunk carpet in my 04 Z06 and I'm at my wits end. I ordered New "GM" carpet from a friend's shop (maybe that's the problem, I should have gone directly to GM.)
Anyways, the first 2 sets were grey then they finally got the order right and delivered a black carpet, but it's wrinkled and missing the indentation that surrounds the trunk well.
Here's the "New OEM GM" trunk carpet I bought:
Here's the factory trunk carpet I want:
Has anyone had luck ordering this carpet from GM or am I doomed to search for a used piece?
I'm confused. You ordered GM carpet from your friend. So where did he order it from? Is it Genuine GM or not? If not, then I would not have a resasonble expectation that it will fit as designed.
I have two GM rear carpet sections for my Z. One is a used one I purchased so I could cut it up for my roll bar installation and the other is the original. Both have the indentation for the trunk well but neither is as pronounced as the one you show as your original. It may be the the trunk well indentation was pressed when the carpet was installed in the car.
The Z06 didn't come with a center compartment lid from the factory did it? That would explain why the carpet isn't indented for the lid.
Is the yellow car a Z or a vert?
The coupe has a lid over the center well but the carpet doesn't go very far into the well. On the Z the carpet completely covers the well. There are other differences between the coupe and Z carpets as well around the wheel wells and side compartments.
OK let me clarify; I was wondering if the carpet you get from GM these days is actually a less quality piece than the 2004 corvettes originally came with in 2004.
I just pulled the P/N tag off of the new piece of carpet I have in my vette and it is P/N S281542039 from Collins & Aikman Greenville. It says it’s for a 2004 VT Coup R/Compt FLR Black, and it is dated 09-14-2007. This leads me to believe my concerns are correct. These are not the original carpets that were made in 2004, I beleive they are lesser quality aftermarket units. Yes, they are probably made by the same supplier, but they are under less strict quality constraints, i.e. they now have missing formed edges and wrinkles.
If anyone knows where I can get a new carpet that is the SAME quality as the original please let me know. How about used?
Does anyone have a carpet from the same company as mine that doesn't look bad? Maybe I just got a bad piece?

I believe C&A went out of business a couple of years ago. That might partially explain why the carpet is a little different. If someone else bought the forming dies their process might be slightly different in the manufacturing also causing some differences.
As to carpet made for the 04 actually being from 04....... Pieces for the 04 model could have been pressed and stocked 6 months to a year in advance. Then sequenced to hit the line. Those dies were probably mothballed by Sep 04. Original stock stored that long might look a little rough. I would say you are correct, (especially with the date stamp) somebody else is making it now to a different spec.
Keep in mind that the original GM vendor suppliers of carpet material have more than likely changed over the years...weaves, carpet lot dyes, molded sections, etc may be slightly different.
