questions like this, to this audience, are extremely subjective. You're not talking to a bunch of oil experts but just a collection of owners with differing backgrounds and experiences with automobiles. There are a few people here that do know a great deal about the C5(Evil Twin is foremost in this regard and a search of his posts, although highly sarcastic, will provide you with some real insight to the C5) but, on average you're much better researching GM's recommendations for things like fluids and lubracants. If you do research GM's recommendations you'll find that any synthetic motor oil that meets GM spec 4718M is approved, not by the members of this Forum, by GM engineering .
As far as I know, the only weight oil that will meet that GM spec is
5W30.
But, it is YOUR car, so do your reseach and put in whatever you think is best.
As far as the brand to use remember the Mobil 1 sticker is on the oil cap because Mobil PAID GM to put it there.
As far as a bunch of sarcastic members , you're correct - but for many people today being sarcastic equates to being "cool" and we all know how important it is to be "cool" rather than helpful, especially when you don't know what you're talking about.

The selling dealer was supposed to either find one, or order me a new one.

It took well over a month, along with several phone calls, to finally get it.

The ignorance level in oil threads is so predictable. That's why they're so much fun.

Be careful what you say now. A Junior Member might take things out of context, and accuse you of being sarcastic!

Agree with all you said and agree that it was tactfully stated.

However, as an FYI, there are several 0w30s and 10w30s that meet GM Standard 4178M including both AMSOIL and Mobil 1 0w30 and 10w30.
