Default 136k Tech??

HI,
is a 136k on my C5 corvette lots? it is my daily driver so i keep it tuned up and keep the oil changed about every 3 to 4 K,and its always serviced at the dealer, so any thing with this many miles on it that could go wrong has been changed are fixed, and it still runs and drives like it did when it had 20 or 30 K on it.And still looks just as clean, its always garaged and coverd if i'm not driveing it..so what do you guys think about the high miles.its a 6 speed coupe and still to me runs sweet.i have been jokeing around with guys i dont know. and i told them just to see what they would say that it had 40K and the told me yes it looks like it..then when i said no it has 136K on it all i hear is no way..its to clean..i think now and then about selling it to buy a newer one but why its paid for and runs and still looks great..what do you guys think..sell it or just keep it??? Thanks dbiddle

I can personally tell you that if you maintain it properly and don't abuse it, its got a long ways to go. I'm the guy who put 310,000 on my C-5 before I gave it to my son earlier this year. Its currently over 320,000 and still going strong. Things will fail or wear out as these are mechanical/electrical/electronic machines. So, expect it. But when something does happen, fix it right away, so that things don't pile up on you and it becomes cost-prohibitve. Nothing lasts forever but you can keep it going forever if you take care of it.

Dgrant says it best and backs it up with his own experience.

No 136K is not a lot of miles. There are others that have similar.

My 2001 has only 61K, but I will be keeping mine for a long time. I expect these engines to last 250K, the rest, is in my opinion, normal maintenance. I also perform most of the maintenance on my cars and like Dgrant says, fix it as soon as you can.

Good luck and post when you get to 200K.

180,000+ miles and 6+ years of autocross and HPDEs. Like DGrant says, take care of them and the Vette will run like the Energizer bunny. I've replaced the shocks twice and the tires, brake rotors, and brake pads a few times , but other than little odds and ends no major failures.

You say the oil has been changed regularly, but what about the rest of the fluids? Tranny, diff, brake, clutch, coolant, all wear out. The more proactive you are maintaining things the happier your car will be.

Finally, if you *know* the dealer's shop and are confident in their work then you've got a winner. However, other than oil changes most dealer shops are as much a crap shoot as any independent shop. In other words, owner/maintainer beware.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

I have 160k on my '99, and thanks to the AFR heads and Comp cam it is running better than ever. The C5 makes an excellent daily driver in my humble opinion. A side benefit is that I typically don't have to drive the lunch bunch since I only have a 2-seater.

HI mike,
Yes all the fluids have been changed over the years, so yes i know thats whats helping it run this long. its because i'm staying up on stuff like you said..I just thought the high miles might mean its time to get a freasher one..but it runs and looks so new to me i keep thinking why. But thanks for asking me about the fluids ok?..dbiddle

One other note: I just had a set of LG Street headers put on and a conservative tune for my autocross (left a bit of peak HP on the table to have a bit richer setup and better torque down low); she dyno'd out at 334 rwhp afterwards (about 384 at the flywheel).

Sounds like you've got a keeper!

Have a good one,
Mike

I would keep it and enjoy it. It wouldn't bring that much with that mileage. As long as it's not giving you problems and you are maintaining it I would see how far you can go with it. I'll bet you can get 300,000 out of it.
