You must not have much experience with bearings, not all bearings, are ball bearings, look up the definition of bearing on google (I tried to include a link to the Wikipedia definition but it didn't work), there are many many types and most do not contain any *****. A bushing is actually a type of bearing, but in a lot cases people use the term interchangeable. In the case of the pilot bearing, some people call it a pilot bushing, they are referring to the same thing.Originally Posted by Nver2loud
I dont beleive that a bearing and bushing are the same....not in my book anyway, a bearing has rollers, and a bushing is well, a bushing.
I guess i dont have much experience in bearings, but i do know that the pilot bearing in our cars does not have "*****" either, it is a needle bearing. I guess where i come from alot of people would assume a bushing is something that does not have any kind of seperate casing with an inside that rolls.
well the reason i brought it up is the fact that the pilot in the Z28 has roller bearings in it. When it was popped out it fell apart. I replaced with a solid "bushing" that had NO rollers. The shop that did the install actually said it was smart of me to order a bushing instead of the bearing set because they last longer and wear less. They said they are more sturdy and don't break apart at all. just gotta grease them before you pop them in. Just a thought...
The trans shop I just used for a rebuild of my trans had mentioned that they liked the bushing better than the bearing. But, I was not prepared to try that without finding out if anyone does that on the LS1/LS6. I went with a self centering pilot bearing. Not sure how well it will work.
Anyway, anyone with experience with using a solid bushing?
