At Carlisle this year I put on Corsa Pace Car cat back, but couldn,t swing an X pipe. Can do it now but don't know what alteration in the sound that will make (if any)and what performance advantage there may be, if any. Any ideas?
Cant respond to the power, ( Im guessing little or no change..if any)...sound wise you'll loose the low "Grunt" and the burble on deceleration ... I think it sounds more "refined"..a bit more high pitched
I think it takes all the high pitch tinny sound out of it. Kinda leaves it with a deep throaty grumble. Less blurp on decel. Thats my opinion though. I have had many exhausts on my c5 with and without the x pipe on each.
I perfer a cross over pipe. I work for a corvette aftermaret place and test the parts. That is how I have come up with my conclusion.

if you like all the poping and backfire stay with the h pipe .. I didnt so I wen tto the x pipe. H pipe shouldn' t be an issue .. but thanks to sound GM engineering there is a nice pocket in the cross over and guess what ... snap, crackle, bang!
I seriously seriously doubt you'll see a 3-5rwhp difference between the two. H-pipe has the deep muscle car sound, x-pipe has the higher pitch exotic sound.
The main difference is that it removes that crackle pop on decel. There is no real crossover effect with the stock H pipe. While it has a 2 1/2" cross pipe,, the hole in the main exhaust pipe sidewall is only the size of a dime,,don't know why they even wasted the time to put it in there!!

I agree that the H-pipe is more of the cookie cutter low rumble sound-To me it's overdone and I'm actually tired of it--Just like the flowmaster sound on trucks--everyone and their brother has a flowmaster so now all the trucks sound the same--I personally like to be different and have my cars sound different than others---
I have a magniflow 3" X pipe on my '98-the universal one that is just
12" long--fit in easily AFTER doing my exhaust--
I love the X-pipe sound--It's more of a race car note and at cruise it's actually quieter--AND I am running NO mufflers--just the cats and custom 3" catback--straight thru pipes---With my baby smog legal cam it really crackles and has that pocketa -pocketa sound at idle--And isn't annoyingly loud as a daily driver--But sounds like a beast when on the pipe--
