Default exhaust question

How can I tell if my vette has stock or aftermarket?? I do not have the vette plate in the back underneath the carraige that I have seen other vettes with.

Is that an indication that the car has an after market:
04/M6/commemorative edtion, coupe.

Thanks for the info.

Bye the way I am back in texas for those that read the thread, and the cover is in hand, and will be used while I am gone. Thanks for the support.

Vette plate is aftermarket.

Post a pic of the tips. although, if it is relatively quiet, it is likely stock.

Or look underneath the back. are the mufflers round cylindars or oval shaped? is there a name on them? or a GM part number.

4 small oval tips will be stock exhaust, anything else and it's aftermarket.

You too can have an exhaust plate whether you have stock exhaust or not.

Don't forget that four 3.5" round tips are stock Z06 exhaust.

If you have anemic looking little chrome tips and your car sounds like a Cadillac you probably have GM's idea of a Corvette stock exhaust

Plus aren't the mufflers painted black?

They start out painted black, before the paint begins to flake off.

Default not to sound stupid

But where would the GM part number be located at, they are oval shaped mufflers I just looked and they are not painted black but they are pushing 5 years in age if they are stock.

It sounds decent to me if you are outside the car and no noticiable roaring when driving unless you step on it.

4 small tips two on each side.

The mufflers them selves are looks like galvanized pipes are clean too.

LEt me know thanks for the info so far

Here's some pictures of a pair of a stock C5 mufflers, that are listed on the big auction site. Hope this helps to compare with yours.

Default so mine does not look like that

It has 4 small round outlets, and definitely not black, the mufflers are galvanized, . Anyone want to guess as to what is on it. I can down load a picture of the back.

Thanks

That might help someone identify what you have.

Thanks for everything and the support from the forum, I will post a picture of the exhaust and my vette with the cover on it that someone from the forum was gracious enought to buy for me.

Take care I look forward to reading from time to time what goes on here on the forum, its always interesting to read some of the posts and always informative.
