Fixing shift boot

Hello,

Long story short, I took my shift boot off so I could put an adaptor and aftermarket shifter on...and now I have a problem putting the boot back into that small zip tie to make it look normal. Anyone have an easy way of putting the thing back to normal?

I did away with my boot and made a custom wood shift plate. It looks nice and I have never seen or heard of anyone doing this. Just a thought.
