what causes HARMONIC BALANCER PULLEY TO GET DAMAGE? cause i notice latley that the pulley been shaking pretty bad and i think i need to replace it, but i wanna make sure that its just pulley i need to replace and not something else. if anybody can help i would appreciate it
The harmonic balancer consists of a pulley, bonded to a vibration-damping element (rubber or similar), which is then bonded onto the hub that's pressed on the crank.
Over time, it's not uncommon for the inner element or bond to deteriorate, separating the pulley from the hub slightly, and often causing the pulley to wobble (the crank and balancer hub still spin true).
The stock balancer is notorious for this. Rare to hear of it occurring on aftermarket balancers, but still not impossible.
