Removing rear cradle?
I have searched this forum for this, but maybe I have overlooked it. I will be removing the entire rear cradle/suspension. My question is what is involved in doing so? Eventually the drivetrain and all will come out. This all will be done on jackstands. Thanks for any and all info!
Done it a few times with buddies and once alone - always with a lift but on jackstands is not that different. A tranny jack is more stable than a standard when lowering and raising the crossmember. It is actually connected to the frame with only four nuts. Once the suspension is dropped, the crossmember is ready to go. You need to support the drivetrain prior to lowering it. Here a couple of links of pics I took during the process.
Jason, done it a lot to mine, dont ask, but I can come by and give you a hand. I can get mine out with in an hour by myself, and that was on jack stands. Let me know when and I'll make time

Most definitely Wish I had someone like that, mine needs to come out also and there are some steps I am not really comfortable doing by myself for the first time.

I suggest obtaining a service manual. All you have to do is follow the removal procedure for the drive train. Just follow the steps...piece of cake.

Awesome man!!!! I haven't ever done anything like this, so if you have and you would like to help then cool! I will be taking everything off my Z06(drivetrain,motor,interior,suspension , you name it,lol) to transfer over to another vette. I may work on it a little this weekend. Stop by some time and I'll show you what I got to do,lol. I really appreciate you wanting to give me a hand with it!

So far so good, been crazy with all the family and stuff
I know he loves it! The car looked good in the pics over on the other forum. I'll have to see it some time. Tell me about family, lol. Wifes family is coming over later tomorrow for a get together. Gets really busy visiting all the family for the Holidays, but it's all good!
I removed mine this summer when swapping rear/converter. It was quite simple and I did it alone, without any help. The car was on jackstands and I used a cheap tranny jack to remove the trans. If you need any help drop me an IM.
I did mine alone on jackstands and it isn't that hard to do. I followed the advice of Cajun's instructions and another user on here as well that had all pics to go with each step.
Just get the car up in the air high enough to allow you to get what you need done. I bought a pair of 6 ton stands for the rear and used my 3 tons up front.
I removed the mid section of the exhaust system. (you may not need to).
Remove the tunnel reenforcement plate.(same as above).
Remove rear wheels.
Remove rear calipers and hang them using bungie cord from brake line bracket.
Remove upper rear control arm bolts.
Remove upper rear shock bolts.
Remove e-brake brackets and undo e-brake connection. Hang em up someplace so they don't bother you.
Pull halfshafts out of the diff by tugging the knuckle towards you.
Disconnect the brakelines from the little black plastic holders.
Remove bolts holding rear end to cradle.
Remove the bolts holding the cradle to the frame rails.
Support the tranny/diff assy with another rack or other support device (I used a 2x4).
Carefully lower the rear cradle taking care to negotiate the brake lines around things as it lowers (not sure if things get in the way or not as I was removing the tranny/rear for a clutch change).
I've had mine out probably more times then I have fingers A motorcycle/ATV jack works AWESOME to pull it out, in combination with a trans jack to support the driveline.
