this is for all of you with power adders that need more ocatane and use toluene. How much do you dilute your gas to toluene.

I don't need it, but if you mix three parts 91 octane gasoline to one part toluene you end up with 96.75 octane fuel. Should be enough to begin with, if no pinging shift to 4:1 ratio, it gives 95.6 octane. 5:1 gives 94.8 octane.

on 93 octane gas i use 1 gallon of toluene and 5 gallons of the 93. Good to go. :cheers:

What mixture do you need for 100 octane using 91 base fuel would it need to go as hi as 50/0? Thanks.David S.

From what I have seen it would roughly be 40%.

On the formula I have seen it is 30% toulene mixed with 92 octane to get 98.6.

You could also use xylene mixed at 30% with 92 gas and get 99.5 :cheers:

You probably should not go over 20% toluene. If for some reason higher than 96 octane was needed, real race gas would be better.

Also, if you use large amounts of either toluene or Xylene, be sure to include a little Marvel Mystery Oil to insure your fuel pump stays properly lubed.

Austrian Vette, european fuel is rated differently than American fuel. 97 euro is about 93 US.

You could definitely use good gas for those big nitrous runs. :yesnod:

What is the BTU content of toluene and xylene... If it is lower than gasoline, then higher octane in exchange for lower BTU's per gallon is not a trade off I would find of any interest... And neither should you...

I was doing some calculations.
If I do a 5:1 mix of 91 octane to toluene; The Toluene cost $10.00 a gal and 5 gals of Premium is $1.25 x 5 = $6.25. So now I'm in to 5 Gal of 96 Octane for $16.25 or $3.25 a gal.

There is a local gas station (In Chandler AZ on Chandler rd in Awattukie (sp?) That sells Race Fuel for $3.99 a gal. out of the pump. I think the race fuel is 100 Octane.

Would there be any benefits to using the Toluene mixture instead of the race pump gas besides for the obvious savings of .75/ gal. Is the extra .75 per gal worth the extra 4 octane? Since I live 15 minutes from the station distance is not a problem.

Buying race gas out of a pump is a very iffy proposition. The light ends of the fuel will boil off when exposed to the atmosphere. Also, contamination is a real issue and you can never be sure you are getting what you are paying for.

Only buy race gas out of sealed drums. That way you know what fuel you are really buying and it is fresh.

The upside of Toluene is it is a pure hydrocarbon. There is nothing else in it so you know exactly what you are buying. At $10/gal you are paying too much. Try a paint supply house like Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore. I don't think Jones-Blair is in Arizona. That's where I get it for $5.51/gal.

You only want to add enough Toluene or race gas to keep you out of detonation. Any additional Toluene/race gas will just be a waste of money and will actually hurt performance. I would add more when running nitrous because it will give you some safety factor.

On the street, if you have a little pinging when running pump gas you need to add only as much to stop it. Probably 5-10%. When running nitrous go to 10-20% Toluene or 25-50% race gas.

You'll have to experiment to get the right mix for your combo and pump gas quality.

But I need 100 octane!!! Twin Turbo 427 Vette adjustable boost lo-med-hi on low the off position which is all I've used 91 octane ok93 better on med-91-96 on 91 I will be retading my timing,on hi=13Lbs of boost I need 100 octane gas 101or 102 would be nicer.I too can get union 76 but its 4.69 per gallon which I can live with,however I'll only be needing this octane 1% of the time which I feel is a waste and if I use a mild dose of Toluene 1/2 gallon to 3 gallons of 91 octane about 92.75-93.25 that would be catering to my med boost good burning hot exhaust and 0-minimum ignition retard so enhanced performance.

But everytime I want to race a serious Supra I need those extra 4.5 lbs. of boost to find another 100 ponies I would have to drain and refill my tank or
always drive around with a gallon of toluene to offset the 3-4 gallons of 91
then find just enough 100+ racing fuel to race and get me home after racing.Either soloution is unnacceptable has any one ever heard of some of the over the counter drugs Amsoil claims 4 points is it true and can you use that per can,Turbo108 "up to" 7 points per tank full?I know of reputable people who swear on these 1 pint wonders,but how can 4 cans at up to 7 points is really good for 4 points per can for 18 gallons is it possible if I add 4 pints to a tankfull I may break 100 octane seems to me @ 4/7ths stated max or lets go 50% 3.5 pointsx4 pints =14 point jump on 91 octane 91+14=105 octane.
I know my math is horrible but with 50k tied up in this 1 motor I dont want to blow it up on my 1st hi boost run.Is there any hope for these products.I've chose these 2 only because they didnt read like Techron we will cean your combustion chambers "so your motor will be new again and require less octane
because it has no carbon in the combustion chambers any more".This is how STP and most popular brands read(between the lines!!!) These 2 said we will RAISE your octane Amsoil just lited aromatic solvents as there main ingridient.
While turbo 108 Listed the 25 letter name of the solvent that raises your octane.

The 3rd option is to pay the 4.69 per gallon.NOW THIS WHAT ANGERS ME!!!!!!1/2 the year this 1/2 you cant pump direcly into your gas tank on premises,into a gollon DOT approved gas jug and then off premisse than all over the nice threads you had to wear that day,ever get gas on your sneakers(tennies)By now youve guessed come I believe 3/302 boom back to normal must keep some one employed Gas at the pump!!!!

Any advice on boosters including the Toluene Marvel Mystery Oil mix and how much to mix 1 quick tank up to a 55 gallon drum would be greatly appreciated,I've heard 20% or more no good then I hear of super Hondas which I remeber used 86 or87% toluene.Please HELP I'm loosing more of my mind.Any help would be greatfully appreciated.David s.

Hey David,
Its Sade Sade's station. I have not been there in 3 months or so, but last time we were able to pump directly into the cars. The station is a hike for you though, its in Awahtukee on Chandler blvd off the I-10. It would be a good place to fill up if you were heading to Firebird for Friday night drags. I would love to see that LPE run on the track. I was with Nate on Sat, Great guy, I will see about the dyno day. I have to straighten out my darn ping during N2O. I may have to get with Nate for an ATAP, if the wideband O2's at street flight don't diagnose the problem.... Talk to you later.

It sounds like you should buy a 55 gallon drum of 104 octane unleaded race fuel. You can get it delivered.

It runs about $200 around here.

This is a good point. Just because the fuel has a higher octane rating does not mean it will produce more horsepower. It will prevent premature detonation and allow you to run more boost or advance without getting into trouble. In my opinion, on a normally aspirated C5 with stock internals, 93 octane is optimal...the correct burn rate and no knock retard.
