Default wild front head lights

I stored my 01 away in a heated garage for the winter. Not being able to stand not driving and seeing it, I went there today. I started the car and warmed it up good. When I looked inside to see if the temp was all the way up, I could not see the gauge, so I turn the light switch to park. Here is where is got strange, the head lights came up (not on) and stayed up. I then turn the switch to full on, and the headlights came on. I then turn them off and tried it again. Again the parking lights came on but up came the headlights (off again).
I went through this three time and the same thing happened each time. I got in the car and put the car in gear, handbreak on/off. Still the same.
Anyone with any ideas for the fix?????

Email me at fun2day@mchsi.com

And thank you all for the help.

I saw this happening to my car also. it is an early warning symptom of bad headlight gears. why it causes this to happen I have no idea, but there's a good chance one or both of your headlight door motor gears are worn down to the point they are about to fail. you may start to hear some grinding before long. however there is a fix and its not too expensive either. do some searches on the forum for more information, you need to replace the plastic headlight gears with some of the much better aftermarket brass ones. once you are done the problem should go away.

strangely mine kept doing it after I replaced the gears, no one here could make heads or tails of it. but then a couple of weeks after the gear swap it went away on its own and has never come back.

THanks, I have the exact grinding you are talking about. I already have the new gears in my garage for repair in a couple of weeks. I hope this fixes it like your did. Thanks very much.

I just posted a similar question before seeing this. Mine also pop up when the fog lights are turned on. My pass side gear is stripping. I hope that is correct that the headlights coming up is a warning sign and will go away. I will probably order brass gears for both headlights on Monday.
