odd headlight issue
Hi all,
Well, I just found the first problem I've had with my 02. I like driving with the fog lights on in the day sometimes. So a couple days ago when I turned them on the headlights popped up, although they did not light up. I turned them off & on a bunch of times and the same thing kept happening.
Later that night when I got home and turned the lights off, my wife happened to be standing in front of the car and heard the dreaded ratcheting sound from the pass side headlight, gear stripping. I likely would never have heard that (until it was too late) because I always turn the lights off before turning the car off, radio still playing.
So I know what to do with the stripped gear issue, but why are my headlights popping up when they should not be? Anybody else have this problem?

Yes, I had this problem when my headlight gear went out.
It has to do with the fact that the headlight module is not getting the current surge when the headlight hits the stop (due to the stripped gear still turning) telling it to turn off the power, then appearently some "timed power off takes place". But this somehow screws up the the headlight module "logic/circuit". So you get your headlights popping up with just the parking lights on.
When I replaced the one bad headlight gear, it fixed this.
