In my search for aftermarket exhaust systems your cats look stock but the x-pipe looks aftermarket. In looking at details about the stock cross-over it is a straight pipe welded between the pipes and has a small hole that is drilled into each pipe. That is why they recommend changing the x-pipe. If I can find where I had come across the pics of a stock x-pipe I will post it then.

Your car came stock with an H-pipe. That is an aftermarket X-pipe that was installed. You can gut the cats but most get a very smelly exhaust when that is done.

Almost everyone complains about smell after going catless.I'd save them in case you want to go back,,,,plus they are worth a few hundred at salvage/recyclers!! That is why there is such an epidemic of cat theft at public lots and SUVs. Thieves jump under wit a reciprocating saw and rip them oun in a few seconds and get $150 to $250 for them. Kinda silly to just destroy them!!

Not exactly sure what you're trying to say here, but I believe you're thinking about just removing the cats and installing a straight piece of pipe on each side in place of each converter. Be aware that you will not gain a whole lot, performance-wise, from this mod, except a louder exhaust, which is just fine if that's what you want.

You could go with after market Hi-flow cats, I'd probably do that then go with nothing.

P.S. That X-pipe looks like a Magnaflow that you have installed.

Your car came stock with a H-Pipe so the X-Pipe is aftermarket.
