Default rear end gear ratio

Posted this in the Perf. Results section last week. Looking for more opinions........Looking to change rear end gears. Have 342 and looking to go lower. My question is ...when I am just shy of the quarter I have to shift to 4th. Tried holding in with 3rd but hit rev limiter. Want to be well into 4th before the end of the quarter but don't want to approach having to shift into 5th and would like to keep some highway practicality. Thinking a 3.7X or a 3.9X. Some tell me to go for the 4.10 or 4.11 and I will have enough top end in 6th for the highway. Any suggestions on where to get gears, a DTE brace and hardened output shafts? My current best time is 12.684 with stock LS1, vararam and Drag radials. Thanks for any input.....Thanks

I have 4.10s in my trans am and love them. I run about 1400 at 55 mph in 6th and that's with 275/40/17 tires.

If you want the correct input you need to give your car specs. I know it a 6 sped, Z or not because the trans gear ratio is different, What engine mods, what speeds do you hit in the quarter?" ECS" has a ratio vs speed chart at thier site. Thats why your feedback varies. A stock 6 spd coupe changes 300 rpm at 70mph going from a 3:42 to a 4:10 (thats my pick). A "Z" seems to like a 3:90 since they have a wilder trans gear set and more power. Now, the more HP the less gear you want or you'll burn the tires off it. Another point is if the car won't see much track you might want a lot of gear to have fun with on the str**t. Example: my last street car was a weekend 71 GTX 440 trip's with a 5:36. This info only relates to 6 spds. Automatics also run less gear because the rpms are way higher due to thier trans gearing. Have fun! Any feedback you consider should also offer thier setups.
