Default Long tube headers

Very curious how the long tube jet hot coated headers affect the computer operation and mixture of the 03 Vette. I'm going to purchase and pick up later in the up coming week. It also has a cold air intake. I liked the fact the car had these aftermarket accessories installed. Also, what type of HP improvement should I expect from those installs?

Hmm. "jet coating" is a brand name for thermobaric coating of exhaust headers. Aluminum alloy is sprayed/cooked onto the tubes to aid in keeping the exhaust heat inside the tubes. This keeps the heat in the tubes, allowing the exhaust gases to move faster through the exhaust system, and improve scavenging of the gases. It also keeps underhood temps lower, which keeps engine temperature and intake temps down as well.

Long tube headers, especially tuned headers (equal length among all the runners) let the engine breathe better by pulling exhaust gases out of the cylinders faster. This in turn allows for more fuel/air mixture to enter the chambers, resulting in more horsepower. Unfortunately, our computers can't deal with the increase in air and fuel delivery, and very often will trip warning codes. Also, becuase of the placement of the O2 sensors farther down the exhaust stream than stock, the sensors don't heat as efficiently. O2 sensor switching faults are common after header installs.

First, if you plan to go with long tubes, a tune is a must.
With your CAI and a set of long tubes folks can see upwards of 30-40hp increases. Not all headers are alike; some make more than others.

FWIW, those are my lessons from doing these mods to my cars. There are far more knowledgeable people on this board than me! :o

:o
What long headers would you recommend? Whats CAI? Last what type of tune did you do to get the best results?

I'm curious and I am sure those questions may come up from the OP too!

American racing and LG are both good headers.

CAI = Cold Air Intake

Thanks Armycop! The headers and cold air intake are already installed on the car. So, if I get these codes, how are they turned off?
