Seeking advice for mods. Want as close to 400 RWHP as possible without headers and with the ability to meet CA smog and no decrease in drivability or reliability (excepting overly aggressive and excessive utilization of said mods :D). I would like these mods optimized for the A4. See sig for existing bolt-ons.
I'm not looking to create the fastest A4 Vette in town, but would like to occasionally erase the look of superiority from the faces of some of the numerous Sunday Viper pilots that cruise southern Orange County.
Please suggest a tuner in SoCal for these mods. Someone who stands behind their work and will "make it right", when things go wrong and offers a warrantee on the mods and any damage done if a mod fails or the installation is faulty.
Call West Coast Corvette's j/k Their Heads, cam, Z06 intake, enlarged throttle body, headers, intake, computer reprograming, 3.73 gears, new torque converter for a few dollars less than $17,000 make 320RWHP on my car. Add a 80 shot of NO2 and your good to go... And no I'm not kidding 320RWHP is the right #
Get my drift... ;)
Good luck isn't MMS in your area? Without headers 400rwhp will probably require a power adder.. Super Charger, Turbo...Keep us posted...
Check my sig. MMS made 400RWHP and 408 torque on stock exhaust manifolds. And there's still room for improvement. I know how the Cali officials are at the stations.....I live in your area. Visual inspection is your #1 concern. Because all long tubes and shorty headers should pass emissions. From what I can tell people have been ceramic coating thier headers black to not give the appearence of aftermarket headers. This actually works in most cases. I have been at smog stations for a couple smogs with friends and C5's with headers and they pass visual and physical. The BEST smog place to go to is on La Paz and Margaurite. Its a ARCO station and the people who run it are pretty lieanent.
I think the best to start is to ask yourself how much money (maximum) you intend to put into your C5 project.
If it is less than 4k then do all or a combo of the following:
1) Intake
2) Torque converter
3) Exhaust
4) Rear end differential upgrade to 3.42
5) Power Loader
If it is over 4k then do all of the following:
1) LS6 intake
2) Supercharger
3) Headers
4) Exhaust
5) Computer tuning for Supercharger
Keep the 3.15 differential and don't add a TC...you'll need the traction. :D
I'm doing the H/C combo next month from MMS. I have a good price on their invoice and it all seems reasonable. I will not quote numbers online however.
In addition to the Stage II Heads with larger valve sizes and their 218/218 CAM, I am adding Long tube headers and '01 intake and probably will not hit 400rwhp. In fact I'm guessing 365-370 - still that's enough to run mid/low 12's pretty easy. We are pretty much in the same boat powerwise.
Ok, here is an EASY way to do it.....Get the Hypertech Power programmer 3, get the MTI ram air kit, and the 160 thermostat, then put a 100 shot of N20. The net result will be about 410 rwhp with about 430 rwtq. And you wont have ANY probs getting passed on the smog test (just dont spray when testing :) ) It is there when you want it (unless btl runs out). If you dont want N20, then get heads/cam and you will be close to those numbers.
I have headers on all of my cars and have never had a problem getting them smogged. They are all plumbed for the AIR tubes which should pass the visual. :yesnod:
