I don't know if this will help you, but I have a flexible shaft extension for my driver so I can bend it around things. Probably got it at Autozone, or something like that. The good thing is when you get it done you will say " that was easy". LOL And, think of all the money you just saved for something else.

I was thinking the same thing about the flex shaft extension. After dinner, I am headed out to the hardware store to pick one up. I hope that the actuator gears are ok and just need to re-indexed and this will solve my B0441 problem. Last year I was able to resolve by clearing the code, pulling fuses, and pulling the battery. This year I can't get the code to go away. Thanks again!
Other than having trouble with reaching the rear bolt of the actuator, has getting to the actuator been pretty easy?
It is now that I know where it is Definitely remove the bottom kick panel and you'll be able to see it when you crawl under. You have to be a contortionist to get under there if you don't plan on removing the seat. It took me a long time to find it, but then I came across this thread and there was mention that you can only see it if the kick panel is removed. This is true.
Now I'm worried that I won't be able to put the car back together. Haha.
I'm trying to get myself psych'd up to do this ...
I had to do the same thing. I thought that since I did the column lock bypass and installed an iPod adapter, that I would be able to do this with ease. This is definitely a challenge. I am trying to avoid taking off the dash pad. That will be my last ditch effort if I can't reach it tomorrow from underneath.
This forum has been awesome! I have learned a lot and have been able to fix many things on my own. Good luck to all of us experiencing this problem!
I finally removed the actuator yesterday and re-indexed. The gears were not damaged but I was still getting codes after plugging it back in, and the actuator wasn't moving. My mechanic friend checked the actuator and plugged the leads into a battery charger to verify if the unit was good or not. We tried pulling fuse #27 and pulling the battery and was not able to clear the codes. (just read that pulling #18 might help also, so I need to try that later)
My friend decided to fiddle around w/ the actuator by trying different gear positions and it is now working, sort of. It is blowing less warm air than before on the driver's side now so he thinks that once he finds the correct position, my problem will be solved. I suggested that I just buy a new actuator, but he felt that he can fix the problem w/ my current actuator. He said that the actuator reminds him of automatic radio antennas and trying to find the exact position by trial and error.
We are going to try again today as I ran out of daylight yesterday.

My friend came over today to help me finish up since it rained over the weekend. It seems to be working now. No codes have returned. Truthfully, I am not sure how many teeth over the gear was adjusted. He is guessing around 3. The air and heater seem to be working properly now. I am going to take a drive tomorrow and mess with the HVAC controls.
If we couldn't fix today, I was going to buy a replacement actuator from Pep Boys for about $160 (non oem for $100 cheaper than local stealership). My friend wanted to try with the existing actuator. If it fails, I am sure he will come back over and just replace since we now know where it is.
