Default TPMS Sensor Battery Replacement

Is it possible to replace the battery in 2001-2004 tire pressure sensors? From what I've searched, it's only been done successfully on the older type 1997-2000 sensors.

I installed new sensors on my '01 along with my new tires and wheels last Spring, and I still have the original sensors and wheels.

Get a hold of forum member Corvette Don, I know he replaces them in the older units but he can answer your question about the newer ones.

I suspect they are nearly the same as the older design... I used a small bladed screwdriver and kept picking away until I found the battery.. It wasn't all that hard... The write up is good too...

I also suspect that finding the right battery and getting a few to install is more of a pain than just buying new sensors... 01s are cheap, relatively.. But go for it... You don't
have much to lose...

The circuit board and the battery inside the sensor can easily be damaged when soldering. Since the newer version sensors are fairly cheap, its just better to replace them.

FYI, I also rebuild the older version of sensors.

I have tried to rebuild the newer ones and have done it, however I need to get ahold of one of my buddies who have a 01+ vette to test them on, I figure in a couple more years ppl will start to need the newer sensors more than now and I plan to sell them rebuilt for under what they cost new, wont make much but if it saves a fellow corvette guy some money then im happy. I still do the older ones and I got 12 to do right now for a few customers but its not easy with a broken leg

Thanks to all for your replys.

I'll hold on to my original '01 sensors for a future rebuild, and I wish you a speedy recovery from that broken leg Don.
