I have a 2001 model built Nov 2000

It has the wireless rf tire sensors, but i read somewhere about the remotes and you walked away the car locks by itself and as you get closer it unlocks

any idea what that is

The key fob and the tire pressure monitor receiver are located near the driver side and the key fob can be set to perform as you indicated. You can turn it off too. Do you have the owners manual? It will explain this option.

The 2000 and up do not have that capability. The 99 and earlier had passive switches on the fob that you could turn on and do just as you said. Most turned them off, they cause a lot of other issues, like locking and unlocking as you are doing something near the car. You are much better off with the 2001 with the updated tps and fobs. Both are much cheaper and seem to be more reliable. Summary, your car doesn't have the passive feature.

IMO you are not missing anything with the passive lock/unlock. When the car is in the garage it is a pia so I leave mine off almost all the time.

Here's a link for a free 2001 owner's manual download. All your features and options are explained in it.
