Default Balancing Tires... Any shop/machine ok??

Having some work done at a shop I don't normally use.

Is there anything special or a specific type of machine I should use for my tire/wheel balancing? Any shop any machine ok?? What should I insist on? Normally my performance minded Chevy dealer uses their best equipment, whatever that is. Don't really want to pay for it twice.

Thx!

I can't recall the model number but I believe it's Hunter 9700 (?) It's sometimes referred to as a "Road Force" balancer beacuse it has a seperate roller that exerts approx. 700lbs. on the tire being balanced while it's spinning. Better simulates real world to the tire. It also has the ability to detect problems with a tire that is out of round and to recommend to the operator how to reposition the tire on the rim to compensate for this. Best there is from what I understand. I've had mine done here in Houston. It's a little higher in price but not exorbitant by any means. Well worth checking out!

MelloYellow,

The machine you want used is the Hunter GSP9700. It's the best machine for getting the balance deadnuts. Will also permit the operator to match the relative position of the tire on the wheel to achieve best possible balance with least necessary wheel weights.

Here is a link to find shops that have the machine.

Find a Hunter GSP9700

From another poster on another forum:

"...the Hunter 9700 machine ... measures lateral and radial runout of the wheels and tires.

...and can do a printout for you which shows the exact measurements taken...I purchased the Hunter GSP 9700 as soon as it became available to me a couple/few years ago.

It has paid for itself several times by eliminating comebacks due to force variations that are unable to be 'seen' by the human eye.

GM and other manufacturers actually use this same piece of equipment in their factories.... as well as Indy race teams, etc.

It is the best technology available to date."

Some of the very best equipment for mounting, balancing and aligning is made by Hunter. If you see that name on the equipment, your tires should be in good hands! Hunter's software is pretty high tech, requires Windows 98 and higher! Many Chevy dealers use Hunter because they are one of the few that Goodyear recomends for mounting the Run Flats. ;) http://www.hunter.com/

Thx guys! If the shop doesn't use one then I'll let my GM dealer check 'em. I think they have one. :)
