Default 2000 corvette key fob questions

Hi all:

I bought a used key fob off ebay. Its been 6 months and the battery is 2 days new in it. It doesn't hold memory to unlock the doors after a few hours sometimes and other times it holds for a day at max, and I constantly have to hold down the 2 buttons to reset it. I cant even valet it anymore as the valets come back and tell me they cant open it

Possibly the one I bought used is bad or was going bad (I broke my old one dropping it) Someone on here told me my receiver device in the car may be bad that controls the remote but I'll try first things first.

I heard the 2000 is the only year that will fit my car. I have also heard that 97-2000 may work?

Will the 97-2000 still unlock my car?

The 2000 fobs are expensive new anywhere from $55-$90 (I know Gene sells them new on here but I am trying to save some dough)

The 01-02 are only $12.95 new. Maybe the 97-2000 will work to lock/unlock my car? Any help appreciated if anyone really knows or if anyone on here has a 2000 vette like mine and they have used a 97-2000 fob on their car? Thanks!

I may be interested in another used one maybe from someone that wrecked their car etc as I dont want to buy another junk one (if it is my fob that is the culprit)

PS- Car battery is fully charged, and no codes on display showing etc. Battery in fob is 2 days old and doing the same thing my old fob battery was doing. Car has 42k on it. I live in south florida and dont have to deal with cold cranking amps. My battery is at 14 volts when starting, and 13.5 when warmed up driving, so there is plenty of power and I just replaced it a year ago. Peace

MB

Hey bro,I converted my 2000 coupe to the newer (2001=2004) system...
I don't think you can use other remotes than 2000....anyway,I can sell you cheap my old RF module if you're interested ,it worked fine before I took it out

Thanks for the offer. I will await an answer on the fobs first to see if that fixes the issue first

I saw this posted the other day. I haven't tried this yet but it sounds pretty easy and cheap if you already have a soldering pencil.

The fobs appear to have a lifetime. Most appear to fail at 8-10 years old and all the batteries in the world will not make them work again. There have been a few who found a broken connection on one of the IC's inside but most find nothing. All you can do is buy new ones. GM refuses to divulge the manufacturer's name. Gene Culley carries them and at the cheapest price around. Buy new ones and be done with it. BTW, the seller on ebay took your money knowing full well that it was no good.

Buy new one(s). I've been thru this. Mine started their short-term memory loss at about 8 yrs. The '97-'99 is about $12 more expensive than the 2000. Bought mine from Gene, $69 shipped. Everything works great now, without memory loss.

The 98/99 fobs will work on your car, but will not have the passive feature available. The 2000 fobs are $59 from Gene Culley, you've already found what happens when you buy used. Don't waste any more time or money, buy a new fob. You won't be sorry in the long run. The 2001 and up fobs are much cheaper, but won't work on your car unless you change out the receiver and the tps sensors. Again, the best deal for you is buy a new fob for the 2000.

I THINK the 98/99 fob will work with your car, but I KNOW the 2000 fob worked with my 98. As I recall the 2000 fob was a little cheaper. I have since upgraded the system to 01-04 style fobs and tpm sensors and sold the 2000 fob on ebay.

I agree with what said above- buy new and know it will work for a long time.

What all is involved (time and cost) on upgrading to the newer sytem?

Just to ask a stupid question. How do I get to Gene's store on the forum? Is it one of the links on the sidebar?

My 2000 went dead on me. Spent hours trying to revive it and figure out what went out. Would program for about a day and then go dead. Got one from Gene in a couple of days. Save the grief and frustration and order one from Gene.
