This is scary. Several months ago, the dealership damaged 3 of my rims when removing the balancing weights (I was going with the stick on weights). My service rep said he would send the rims off and get them repolished to remove the scratches.
Now, those 3 rims have developed thousands of small pits all over the surface of the rim. They look as if they have dirty freckles. The spots will not come out. The rims look like crap.
The dealer has finally ordered 3 replacement rims.
Re: DO NOT Re-Polish Your Rims!!! (RajunCajun2001)
thats what happens to non-clearcoated rims, any and all aluminum rims will start to "white rust" and get pits, thats it why in the "street rod world" you must buff and polished the rims all the time(pain in the a##!!!)
p.s. I have non-clearcoated boyds on my '57 chevy convertable, and '57 chevy truck, and they are a pain to keep looking good if you drive them alot (get wet)!!!!!! chrome, and clearcoated is the only way to go!!! :flag
