I'm not positive but think I remember seeing a labor chart for that, showing 19 hours times cost per hour.

To remove and replace the engine in my 04 came to $8030.00

The dealer had the engine alone at $6000.

This was a new crate engine. the crank blew in half at 27K miles on the original one. GM took the engine back to see what the flaw was since cranks never do what this one did.

Good Luck.

If that is all labor that is a lot of labor given labor charges are from $90/hr to $150/hr depending on where you live.

Gee, guess I got a great deal! My son's 99 Trans Am spun a rod bearing. I bought a replacement engine from a junk yard. My mechanic only charged me $300 to swap the eninges!

You sure did. My Grand Cherokee was $1,500 for the swap.

I hadn't heard of one either, but it looked like a manufacturing defect and unfortunately, they happen.

I'd rather have the best work on my car then to go with the unknown. Although he's a busy man and talks in riddles, you know what you're getting.

Wow thats one hell of a deal. I know a swap on a c5 is harderthan on a 4th gen f body but still, thats crazy. I hope you gave the mechanic a nice "tip" or are very good friends with him.

Most shops will do a r/r, no extras, just the engine and accessories (not adding headers, new clutch, etc, etc, just the engine swap) for 13.9 hours labor, at least that is what Alldata calls for on a C5. THen you have to add fluids etc. It adds up quick.

Texas Speed quoted me $1400 for an engine R&R. I felt that it was a fair price considering how much work it is. I have done it myself twice since then and know what it takes to do it correctly. It is NOT an easy job!
