To remove and replace the engine in my 04 came to $8030.00
The dealer had the engine alone at $6000.
This was a new crate engine. the crank blew in half at 27K miles on the original one. GM took the engine back to see what the flaw was since cranks never do what this one did.
Good Luck.

Gee, guess I got a great deal! My son's 99 Trans Am spun a rod bearing. I bought a replacement engine from a junk yard. My mechanic only charged me $300 to swap the eninges!

Wow thats one hell of a deal. I know a swap on a c5 is harderthan on a 4th gen f body but still, thats crazy. I hope you gave the mechanic a nice "tip" or are very good friends with him.

Most shops will do a r/r, no extras, just the engine and accessories (not adding headers, new clutch, etc, etc, just the engine swap) for 13.9 hours labor, at least that is what Alldata calls for on a C5. THen you have to add fluids etc. It adds up quick.

Texas Speed quoted me $1400 for an engine R&R. I felt that it was a fair price considering how much work it is. I have done it myself twice since then and know what it takes to do it correctly. It is NOT an easy job!
