Difficulty changing C5 diff. Is it a DIY mod for old guys?
I have purchased a 3.15 diff for my 2.73 A4. I have the PowerLoader II from Cole ready to install. I have a buddy who has a shop that we can do the change. We recently put on a front suspension with disc brakes, a new 340 engine, 518 O/D auto tranny and a 3.91 SureGrip diff with SS springs in my '68 Dart. We did all of that with an engine puller, floor jack and 2 weeks of work. He is questioning if we can change the diff on my '98 C5 without a lift. He is concerned about doing this change on the floor with only a floor jack. We have extensive experience building and playing with racecars and streetcars. My question to the Forum is: Is it possible to do this "diff change" on the floor of his shop. (We have airtools) We are both retired guys and spend our time playing with cars. Is this too physical a job for a couple of old guys? How much does it cost to have it done at the dealer, or, a competent garage?

I have the data that was posted on the forum for, "How to change the C5 diff". I believe it came out of Corvette Fever mag. Any tips on shortcuts or do's and don'ts?

Had mine done by CARTEK and I must say anyone doing this change without a lift and some of the tools they used, earns my respect. IMHO didn't consider this change to be of the garage/shade tree mechanic variety. Once again, well done to those who have...
