Guys:

(Posted this on the General section but wanted to see if I could get some input here)...

I think I'm going with a "Headers Only" purchase on the LG Streets (around $695.00). I'm planning on using the stock cats and my stock Corsa X-pipe. I have access to a lift, a tig and a mig.

Here's my question (which could possibly be a stupid one) but I have to ask...Is the stock C5 exhaust stainless? Are the CATS stainless? The reason I ask is that the tig work would obviously look better where I would need sections of pipe or clamps welded in. I guess the other option would be to have band clamps fabricated that would overlap the header to cat portion of the exhaust.

I guess I just can't see spending an additional $600.00 on an X-pipe (which I already have) and high flow cats (which are going to gain me somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 RWHP) when I can get most of the work done on the cheap...

Any thoughts guys? I'd really like to see pics of anyone who has a setup with LT's and an X-pipe but used the stock cats...

Thanks!

Rossi

Pretty sure it's all stainless. Although I replaced mine with Kooks headers and 3" all the way back - instead of stepping from 3" collectors to 2.5" stock exhaust. I used v-bands on mine. It was more expensive but much nicer to take the exhaust of now.

(I also have a 2000 FRC in the Pittsburgh area.)

You asked for some input, so here goes. I'd forget about the new LG Streets. I'd buy a used complete set of LG Pro long tubes, LG X/ pipe w/ hi flow cats. This will match up w/ your current cat back system. Going this route, would cost in the neighborhood of $750-$850. Sell your used x pipe . Less work, better system, all parts match. Check out todays For sale section a post by Exotica. He is going to be removing these items soon from his car and wanting to get a sale. Good luck.

Thanks...

I'm not real keen on the 1 and 7/8 size. I'm also gun shy on the high flow cats...I have a friend who tried them in his '01 coupe and he said the drone (compared to stock) was terrible at 2,500 RPM. I don't want to get everyone started with the "Streets vs. Pro" argument, but I just can't see needing the larger headers. The most I can foresee doing to the car is the headers and CAI this year and maybe, down the road, a small cam and heads. I think part of the problem I'm having is that there is TOO MUCH information on this forum! However, you bring up a valid point with the used LG's. If I can find the smaller set...

The pro's are 1 3/4". He's removing them to go w/ the 17/8" for his bigger motor. Good luck . As far as the hi flo cats, the noise is very minamal. Whats good too is you can take the hi flo's off, and put the by pass tubes in it's place and vice versa.

I picked up a complete used set of Dynatechs. Headers, cats and x-pipe for $850. You can alway choose not to use the hiflow cats and either keep them or sell them.
Forget buying new. The "Corvette Tax" is RIDICULOUS.

I've purchased the headers, G5X3 cam, PRC spring kit, Vararam.... etc. either here or on other sites and have gotten some great deals.

Take this with a grain of salt, because I have not installed the LG Streets - yet.
The LG headers have very long primaries (which is good). But, the 4 primaries will actually extend all the way back to where the stock cats are now located. With some shorter headers you can just cut the stock pipe ahead of the cats, and mate the headers up with a mating pipe or welder. With the LG's. I think you will have to cut the cats out and move them backwards a bit. But, I guess that's possible also, if there is room.

To add to my comments; I just looked at a photo of the lG's installed, under the thread (LG Streets, Pros, or Smooth-Flow).
It appears the stock cats cannot be moved back enough to mate up with the LG's; the tunnel narrows down quite a bit. Check it out.
