Does anyone know why the Corvette does not use a Torsen differential? I am assuming that the jerks I get driving really slowly making tight turns in a parking lot is caused by the clutch packs in the differential.
Previous in my Z-28 with a Torsen differential at slow speeds and low power it was smooth and felt much like an open differential but was fully functional with low traction and high power. Unlike the clutch types.
Do you think it is a cost issue or a power level issue or what?
And do you think my experience with mine is normal or should it be looked into by a dealer?
It sounds like you may need to add some of the GM antispin diff lubricant. If you are getting jerking and clunking noises when making slow turns the clutch paks may be gripping to much and need some of the lubricant to smooth them out.
Sometimes doing a bunch of figure 8s in both directions can help.
Keep in mind, even though we're talking a $40,000+ car, the GM bean counters will still to try and shave nickles and dimes off the cost. The Torsen you speak of in your Z-28, I believe, was an "aftermarket deal" through SLP.

Nope it was standard on the 2002 Z-28. I had a 1999 and it did have the clutch differential limited slip and the Torsen was realy smoother and just as effective. I can guess cost was an issue and maybe a Getrag NIHS too but it sure would have improved the C6's manners a lot, not affected performance or ever worn out AND does not require any special lubricant.
