I'm going to have to replace the balancer on my 97. . .any recommendations on which balancer go to with? I have heard the Powerbond is ok and also the SLP. Also see that Mid America carries a balancer.
Any recommendations arre welcome.

Both ASP and SLP are quality pieces. You can't go wrong with either.

ASP Underdrive Pulley

I assume if I decide to go with an Underdrive pulley the AC and the main belts are larger than stock; Right?
Any stock numbers on the belts?
Thanks, great information. . .

If you don't have an upgraded cam and desire one, this would be the time to do that. You'll be doing much of the work involved in a cam swap. That will snowball into hardened pushrods, valvesprings and a tune. Rocker arms wouldn't be a bad idea while you're doing a cam. Hello income tax refund!

Really not that much more money involved.Buy a good use cam,if all the other parts are new, then the cost should be under $550.

I am presently running a TCI balancer, everything TCI makes is first rate quality.

I just replaced mine on my car. If it is moving around i would replace the seals on the Timing cover, a couple of dollars and they are worn because of the balancer.

Does the SLP pulley also require a smaller belt?

Regardless which balancer you use, PIN that puppy to the crank so you won't be tearing it down again when it slips.

I would replace the belt tensioner and idler pulleys. I just changed mine out and what a pain. If you have it opened up and can get to them change them out. Also GM has a new design for the ac tensioner that fails early. The pivot bearing shielding has been changed as a result of the earlier design prematurely wearing resulting in pulley misalignment..

Remember

pointy end goes to the front
fire comes out of the back
and always put the rubber thinginges down first.

Attain proper position
Hand grips raise
Trigger squeeze

And don't mess with the red guarded switches.

The above sounds very familar. . . .
I flew F-100, F-4, F-15, and F-18s. . . .

Thanks for all the great responses to this. I think I am going with the Powerbond since I can buy it locally.
Great information, thanks to all.
