Going to install the corsa X-pipe this weekend. A friend said that when he cut the exhaust pipes to install his X-pipe the exhaust pipes sprung apart so much they had to heat them to bend them back and get the X-pipe on. Has anyone else had this problem and how to avoid it ? Considering tieing the pipes together before cutting but didn't know if there is a "trick" to this.
What probably happened was that he didn't allow enough pipe to slide inside the x-pipe when he cut it and had to stretch the exsisting pipe... There is no spring to the exsiting exhaust pipe....

This is a fine Padron 1964 Anniversary if you’re wondering…
I'm the guy who had the muffler shops heat the pipes to get them to fit into the X-pipe. Maybe my X-pipe was defective, and the pipes on the X-pipe were manufactured too close together. When I had it installed, I asked the muffler shop what was taking so long, and they said the stock pipes were sprung out wider than the X-pipe. They told me they had to heat them up to get them to fit. Apparently, this is not a common problem, so maybe my muffler shop did something else wrong, or my x-pipe was out of tolerance.
I had to use some pipe straps around the stock pipes and compress them a little to get the Corsa X-pipe to fit. Also had to open up the new ends a little.
I followed the directions exactly and cut about 1/4-1/2" too much off the existing pipes. The new section fit but left a little leak from the slot in the split ends on the Corsa section because the stock pipes did not go in all the way. The next time I had it off to gut the precats I patched it with some thin sheet sheet.
Don't know if it was all worth it! It might flow better, but it added some weight over the existing pipes.
A friend and I installed my Corsa X-pipe and Indys this weekend. When we installed the X-pipe, we did have to squeeze the cut pipes together to insert them in the X-pipe. It was very minimal. Maybe about 1/4 of an inch and we easily did it with our hands. Fit was very good.
We cut of the pipes exactly as stated 31.5" in driver and 30" on passenger. When we installed the X-pipe, the slot on the passenger size was still showing when the drivers side was sunk. We pulled it off and cut off anther 1/4 inch which made it perfect.
Very strange situation you've got yourself there  You might want to get a new x-pipe and start over.Get and off road x-pipe the pipe is bigger and can with stand more abuse during the install.
This is what it should look like when your finished :D
