The mods on my 9500 mi '02 Z06 are as follows: Halltech Venom, LG long tube pros into 3" x pipes w/small cats & Borla Stinger cat backs. 160 therm, cam has 228/232 in/exh dur., 595/605 in/exh lift & 114 LSA. Added a 25% underdrive pulley. Dynoed @ 425.2 hp and 391.6 tq. - @ 3 grand the torque curve goes vertical and it's like a sledge hammer in the butt.
My intent was to get the most for the least. Head work or aftermarket replacements, porting, etc. produce some gain but $s/hp ratio much higher than the above. I've also decided to keep the stock diff. gear ratio.
My intent was to add a Vortech blower next which should put me around 600 hp but my dyno guy advises against it. Bottom end is stock and not forged. He thinks pistons will fail @ some point. I figured on a clutch upgrade but don't want to go into the short blk on this 9500 mi cherry now. Gotta pay for my trophy bride's new baby grand piano 1st.
I'm just a shade tree mechanic that does almost all my own wrenching but I don't have a clue on this situation. Sure don't want to blow a piston or put a rod thru the side of the blk. Any advice, opinions or thoughts from a pro would be appreciated.
Thanks for reading.

Yep - that's what I thought and it's a sweet running street machine the way it is - not really a slouch and no unusual mechanical problems to worry about + keeping 7 - 8k in the bank!
I am on a stock bottom end with 609 Rwhp. The main key is just don't drive it stupid. I rarely take my car up to full boost. Also a meth kit will help and the tuners is the most important key not blowing up a stock motor. A few people have 700+ on a stock bottom end.
You can see my mods and HP in my sig. Short block is completely stock as is tranny, rear end and axles. As posted, don't drive it stupidly and it will last.

Why spend all that money to make big power and not use it. You would have been better off investing.
If you decide to go with a SC and intend to drive the car then start saving up for a forged motor. You will need it sooner or later. My engine lasted 1 year before breaking 2 ring glands.
There are guys with way more milage then you and run a blower with 600rwhp+ to boot. There are a hand full of guys with over 700rwhp on the stock short as well, but that's kind of pushing it.
If you want the extra power I say go for it! Just keep boost around 8# or so, and run an Alky kit for safety. As long as your tune is spot on you shouldn't have a problem.
Check out the F/I section and you'll see a bunch of guys running F/I on stock bottom-end with no problems. Again, it's all about the tune. Good luck!
I am on my stock engine with stock clutch at 48K miles and all is well and has been for the last 6K supercharged miles. I drive the car very hard and am in full boost frequently in 2nd, 3rd and 4th and the engine and drive train seem to be holding up very well.
I have recently lowered my boost to 10 psi and am right at 600 rwhp as I am actually faster with the limited traction I have with the lower hp until I get wider rims/tires.

Don't go into the F/I world without a pocket full of cash. You will need a clutch, upgraded fuel system, meth injection, tunes for days, forged motor and on and on and on.
There are lots of little problems along the way like corrupted computers that need replacement.
Are you going to toss a rod no matter what if you put a blower on? Heavens no.
should you put a blower on and expect it to be the last $$ you spend on it? Hells no.
Do it? Hells yes.
Run the lowest boost you can and have someone who knows what they are doing tune it and you will have lots of miles left on the stock block along with that extra nudge in power you know you want... Just don't expect everything to be as though you never modified the car.. You've got a decent size cam in there, make sure you're running enough spring for it, esp adding the blower.
I agree with alot of other guys....Do it! My friend Black99 makes 777rwhp on his stock block. That s over 800fwhp. His car doesn t even smoke, and he doesn t baby it! ....my .02
