When you read this you'll think I'm a moron, which, actually I am, but my car is so low that it's scraping the bottom of the oil filter.Although it's barely scraping, it's very risky.I was told that there may be a oil filter relocation kit available to move the filter near the firewall or higher above the current location. If you guys know of any kit like this, please let me know.
Re: 02 COUPE TOO LOW NEED.............. (Buckmaster)
I physically looked under the car when it was on the alignment rack, the alignment guy about shi$ his pants when he saw this. When I looked very hard, the oil filter sits one hair below the frame.I did change out to an amsoil filter so I dont know if that filter is longer than stock.I'm trying to get ahold of a digital camera so I can post a picture of how low the car sits.

Thanks
That sounds really strange. I've never heard of this happening to anyone before.
Re: 02 COUPE TOO LOW NEED.............. (Buckmaster)
If you bend down you cant see jack, it's to low to the ground, you have to have the thing on the rack. Like I said earlier, it BARELEY sits below the frame, that's why it's only scuffed. Remember that this IS NOT the stock oil filter. I physically stuck my eye's 2 inches from this thing. The alignment guy is the one who told me if I was going to keep the car this low I needed a relocation kit. From the response I'm getting no one has heard of an oil filter relocation kit.
Re: 02 COUPE TOO LOW NEED.............. (Buckmaster)
I wouldn't make this up buckster, lets put a c-note on it.As soon as I can get ahold of a digital camera I will make sure to get a picture of this. Then your lack of faith will be changed to belief.
Re: 02 COUPE TOO LOW NEED.............. (Buckmaster)
Brother, I'm just jokin around here, believe me I'm not insulted. I was shocked myself when I saw this as well. The first thought in my mind was "why the hell would gm put the frigin filter below the frame". It's gotta be because the amsoil is longer. The car is scraping hard on the big speed bumps, which I now avoid. Thats where I believe the scrapes come from.I will post a pic as soon as I can.
Re: 02 COUPE TOO LOW NEED.............. (vettethret)
I think you guys are misunderstanding vettethret. I'm sure he does not mean that this oil filter drags CONSTANTLY. I believe he just means that there are scrapes on his oil filter indicating a hit previously. I'm sure this would be possible when extremely lowered cars go over speed bumps and such.
Re: 02 COUPE TOO LOW NEED.............. (vettethret)
There is an oil filter part number with everything is the same as stock only LONGER!!!! I thing I got the part numbers for different brands on the LS1.com site?
Your Amsoil filter must be one of these sizes.
Used normally on other appications, I think the Gen III motored trucks use it. I used them on my 98 Z28 as it doesn't set as low, it did hang lower than the oil pan however, wouldn't run it on a Vette though.
The correct size filter does not hang below the bottom of the oil pan.
Re: 02 COUPE TOO LOW NEED.............. (vettethret)
Know what you mean, believe it is the type of filter, I know for a fact that the FRAM filters are about an inch longer than the AC PF44 or UPF44, had to use one for about a week one time when that was alll that was available, change to a shorter filter design and you are good to go
Re: 02 COUPE TOO LOW NEED.............. (vettethret)
You can get a Oil filter relocation kit from DRM but I think it would be much easier and cheaper to get a low profile oil filter such as those mentioned earlier in this thread.
I have the oil filter at another location because I have a AccuSump system with a pressure tank in the front. It should be possible to use the parts from DRM relocating the oil filter only not the whole AccuSump kit.
