Go to top of this page click on search, and type "colant temp." Lots of reading.

When the HVAC is off, the fans only come on when the temp gets up to like 225. At 235 they go on to high speed. Assuming your fans are running normally under these conditions, the next thing to look at is the front of the condensor. The C-5s are like vacuum cleaners on steroids! They suck up everything and it all gets stuck in the front of the condensor. The obvious debris are plastic bags and so on. The not so obvious debris are the gazzillion tiny rocks that will plug up the cooling vanes. Those need to be blown or washed back out from the rear to the front. Now, I'm assuming you've already verified that you don't have any coolant leaks and the small nipple with tube on the overflow/pressure tank isn't cracked yet too.

That sounds a bit more normal....assuming that your HVAC is off. If the HVAC is on at the time, then it is not normal. Either way, you probably need to clean out the debris from the front of the condensor. It makes a serious difference.

Completely normal, see below:

The low speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 108°C (226°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 104°C (219°F). The high speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 113°C (235°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 108°C (226°F). When the A/C is on and the coolant temperature reaches 85°C (185°F), the low speed cooling fan will be turned on at vehicle speeds less than 56 kPh (35 mph).

Most people have this question when they first get a C5, it runs hotter than most cars. I had the same question when I first got mine.
