Default Air Box Baffles, Especially Me

I have a 1999 coupe with the stock air box. I've read a lot about the DIY mods regarding the top of the air box, but haven't read anything about the bottom.

The bottom of the air box has those baffles, which I assume are there to do nothing more but reduce sound as air is sucked in. LS1 Fbodies have aftermarket air lids which are basically the same as the stock ones. except they are smooth with no baffles and are worth a few dyno proven RWHP's.

Has anyone ever removed the baffles on a C5 stock air box? If so, what were the results?

Open up the air box from the middle all the way down and across to the 2 straps--cut all the baffles out--use closed cell foam on the sides of the box as to not let any underhood heat get in--replace filter with a oil guazed--install z06 front air screens--good for at least 10 ponies

I mean the baffles on the bottom part of the box, the bottom that is clamped to the MAF.

The "baffles" may have to do with the molding process or for structural support (?). Or they may "straighten the air flow" like the old MAF screens did (?). Who knows what the engineers were thinking.
I doubt their removal would yield any improvement that you'd ever recognize...but it's your car.
When I modified the top portion of my assembly, I considered removing them, decided it would be a waste of time for a street car. I used them only as guides to increase the opening.

Good advice here if you don't want to do the full "zip-tie" mod. Fins on the bottom look to direct airflow if anything and since the air enters from above them, probably have nill effect.
