Use a flat bladed screwdriver to wedge the four retainers outward.

You should only have to take the two top screws out and the bottom will be in two clips attatched to the Plastic License Plate frame!

When you remove the plate the frame should come off with it! You might have some screw covers over the screws so you will need to take those off first to access the screws

Thanks,Matt

I have taken the 4 screws out but it still won't come off. It's cold hear in Mich and I don't want to brake it.

You have to pry the 4 plastic retainers on the inside of the frame outward.

I was haveing the same problem today.

Can someone post a picture of the 4 plastic Retainers that need prying - or maybe an exploded view pic from the manual ?

You can email it to me if you prefer.

I don't want to start prying blindly and end up breaking something.

Thanks

Never Mind - I figured out how to get the Blasck Plastic Frame off - HOWEVER - It appears that you can not use a Generic Chrome License Plate Frame as the black plastic surround covers a lot of the mounting surface behind the license plate and a standard Chrome License Plate Frame shows the background around the chrome frame without the Original Black Frame being there.

Is there a Chrome License Plate Frame available for the C5 without having to spend $150 for a fancy billet frame that goes around the back-up lights ???

Or am I supposed to keep the black plastic frame there and put a Generic Chrome frame OVER the black plastic frame ? (this will look rediculous if I do that)

Any tips on a good Chrome frame that actually fills the gaps (wide edges) reasonably priced ?

Look closely at both vertical sides. On the inside (center of car side) you'll see 4 slots. Push a small screwdriver in the slots to push the locking tabs outward. CAUTION, be very careful, they break easily, COLD weather won't be in your favor. Do 1 corner at a time, and push the minimum amount to unlatch it. Carefully!!!!!!!!

Thank You - I figured out how to get the Black Plastic Frame off - But replacing it with a Generic Chrome Frame does not seem to fit properly - You see the background of the mounting surface around a Generic Chrome Frame - I dont really want to spend $150 for a Custom Billet Frame - What CHROME Frame will fit properly without using the Black Plastic Frame ?

Paint it body color while you have it off. Looks real cool when you do that.
